LaserNet
LaserNet is a full service provider of multimedia services, media delivery, streaming media, data delivery, archiving, internet and VOIP. The groups principal infrastructure is a VLAN laser network supported by radio, fiber and satellite. The network serves the greater Johannesburg region, the greater Cape Town region and the greater Durban region. From this network we break out to other regions in South Africa and the rest of the world via Verizon network and satellite infrastructure. Our professional staff have many decades of experience in delivering broadcast, network, data and multimedia services.
The media industry today is reliant on a few methods of delivering media, tape, satellite, microwave, RF, diginet and atm. Tape is the most common form of media delivery and is by far the cheapest. Satellite is by far the most expensive but has the advantage that it’s available from anywhere in the country as well as outside the country and only dependant on the satellite footprint. Microwave is expensive and only a point-to-point solution, RF is terrestrial and is the most common method for live television broadcasts, slower data delivery and internet services. Diginet is used for data delivery but is limited by its bandwidth. ATM is an infrastructure that until recently, is starting to be used by the media industry, but it is very expensive and is regarded as old technology in the rest of the world.
These technologies have limitations as stated above over the LaserNet VLAN network. LaserNet’s VLAN is able to offer up to 155MB/sec state of the art laser technology from the client to our network. This will enable the client to move huge data files over our fast Ethernet network to local broadcasters, ad agencies, production companies, distributers and other clients connected to our network as well as to LaserNet’s servers and customers worldwide.
